Abstract

A device for determining the quality of the finish of optical surfaces includes successively a laser generator (1) for generating a beam (6) which passes through at least one optical surface (8, 9) to be analysed, a converging lens (10), a diaphragm (12) disposed in a focal plane, and means (14 to 19) for measuring the ratio between the light intensity which passes through the aperture (13) of the diaphragm and that stopped by the diaphragm. The apparatus may be used for determining the quality of the finish of transparent plates with parallel or spherical surfaces, or, with modifications (Fig. 3) for testing reflecting surfaces. If the axis of the emergent beam (25) is not precisely aligned with the diaphragm (12), means (24, 26) may be provided for scanning the spot (13) over the diaphragm (12) and for activating the ratio calculator (18) at the instant when the signal generated by the sensor (14) passes through a peak. <IMAGE>
