Abstract

725,963. Valve casings. DEWRANCE & CO., Ltd. March 3, 1953 [March 3, 1952], No. 5853/53. Class 135. In a valve casing for use with high pressure steam wherein an opening in the casing and a closure cover therefor are formed with an interlocking joint, e.g. a bayonet joint, and the cover is sealed to the casing by a seal weld, to prevent the seal weld from cracking through stresses arising from temperature changes within the easing, relatively thin lips 8, 9 on the cover 1 and casing 2 respectively are symmetrically spaced about the junction line 13 and formed with inturned flanges upon which the weld metal 5 is deposited. In a modification, the lip 8 is formed with an inwardly projecting corrugation to compensate for relative axial movements between the casing and its cover.
