Abstract

725,888. Wire staples; strips of staples. HELLER, H. S. June 15, 1953, No. 16386/53. Class 89(2). A staple has parallel legs 11, 12, Fig. 4, joined by radii 14 to an arched back 10 of uniform radius. When used to stitch sheets 20 together, the staple is driven by the blade 16 of a stapling machine against an anvil 19 and the back remains arched until the staple is substantially home, as shown in Fig. 5. The final movement of the blade straightens the back as shown in Fig. 6, and obviates rupture of the upper sheet 20 by the back. When used for tacking, it is stated that should one leg meet greater resistance to penetration than the other, then the material of the back flows into the leg encountering the least resistance. The staples may be assembled in strips for use with the stapling machine.
