Abstract

776,088. Wire staples. SPOTNAILS, Inc. March 3, 1955 [March 4, 1954], No. 6304/55. Class 89 (2). A staple 5 is formed with knife-edges 13 at its points which are oppositely-inclined to compel the legs 8 of the staple to follow paths which diverge in the fore-and-aft directions when the staple is driven into hard material. The staple may be formed from soft steel-wire flattened at the inner and outer sides 9 of the legs, and the edges 13 are oppositely directed at angles of not less than 19 degrees and not more than 31 degrees to a plane normal to the axes of the legs to produce the desired fore-and-aft divergence. Lateral divergence, away from the toeing-in attitude of the staple in the driving machine, is also provided by inclining the edges 13 outwardly. The staples may be adhered together in the form of a " stick."
