Abstract

442,195. Staples. SORENSON, W. L., 1160, 85th Street, and GOODSTEIN, C. B., 3814, Seagate Avenue, both in Brooklyn, and POSNACK, E. R., 270, Broadway, both in New York, U.S.A. June 26, 1935, No. 18328. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1934. [Class 89 (ii)] A staple is formed of prong members comprising two angular disposed legs 18, 19, with an indented section 16, between them. The two prong members are formed with straight portions 20, 22 and tips 21, 23 bent so that the free ends 26a, 27a are in substantially the same vertical plane as the upper points 28, 29. In operation the staple is driven by a plunger 30 into the work until the intermediate part flattens and contacts with an anvil 32. The anvil is withdrawn after which the staple is completely forced in. During the ensuing clinching operation the legs are given an inward inclination so that the ends 21, 23 approach each other and may either overlap when the staple goes completely through the work, as in Fig. 7, or merely approach when embedded in the work, as in Fig. 8. Specification 428,552 is referred to.
