Abstract

GIOVANNI & CO., [formerly COMPRESSORI UNIVERSAL SOC. PER AZIONI]. Sept. 23, 1953 [Sept. 27, 1952], No. 26223/53. Class 116. Apparatus for checking and replacing oil in engine sumps comprises a transparent checking chamber, and means for selectively producing vacuum and air pressure within the chamber, characterized in that the means consists of a built-in compressor having its suction and pressure parts alternatively connectable with the checking chamber. An air compressor 1 creates a vacuum in a transparent bell chamber 10 and draws the oil from the engine sump C into the chamber. If it is observed to be unusable, it is discharged into the waste chamber 14 fitted with a float valve 26 and exit valve 31 and exit tube 32. If the oil is suitable for re-use in the sump, the conduit 11 is fitted on to the conduit 4 and the compressor is operated to restore the oil to the sump. A pressure reducing valve 6 and a relief valve 7 are interposed in the conduit 4. A hose 22 for delivering high pressure air may be connected to the reservoir 3 through a filter 20, automatic switch 30 and valve 21, a filter 12 being fitted to the conduit 8, and valve 5 in conduit 4 remaining closed.
