Abstract
724,740. Cooling shaft furnace casings. DUFOUR, J., and BISTOS, A. June 5, 1953 [March 11, 1953], No. 15541/53. Class 51 (2). The casing 1 of a shaft furnace is cooled down to the level of the refractory lined hearth 2 by open water troughs 4, 5, 6 and 7 placed one above the other and either welded to or removably attached to the said casing, water being supplied by a pipe 10 and removed from the lowest trough by a valve controlled pipe 11. The base 9 of each trough tapers off and extends into the flared top 8 of the next lowest trough, the side wall being vertical, and cleaning doors 26 are provided. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the troughs have either individual supply and discharge pipes, or individual discharge pipes with a common supply pipe as at 10, Fig. 1. Specification 18978/03, [Class 51], is referred to.
