Abstract
In the manufacture of soap tablets, partially dried soap is subjected to such action as will convert or partially convert it from the a -phase to the b -phase, water then added to it and the mass is mixed and formed into tablets. The conversion to the b -phase may be effected by milling or plodding or both. The original partly dried soap may have a fatty acid content of from 75 to 80 per cent, and about one-fifth of its weight of water may be added. The soap with added water may be further milled or plodded or both before stamping into tablets. A proportion of sodium carboxy methyl cellulose may be added with the water, preferably as a solution containing not less than 5 per cent. Alternatively a small amount of silicate of soda may be added with the water. Colour and perfume may be mixed with the soap before it is first milled or plodded.
