Abstract
A process for obtaining dried products from the latex of a neoprene or butadiene-acrylonitrile or butadiene-styrene synthetic rubber comprises changing the isoelectric point of the particles in the discontinuous phase by adding a surface active agent and then increasing the charge density of the particles by adding an acid salt or the like ionizable compound, and drying the mixture. The surface active agent may be an anionic or a cationic wetting agent such as cetyl pyridinium chloride. The charge density may be increased by an acid such as lignin sulphonic acid or a salt such as ammonium chloride or ferrocyanide. Alternatively an alkali may be added after an anionic wetting agent. The surface of the rubber particles may be rendered less sticky by the addition of quinones and ferric sulphate, sodium perborate and mercuric chloride, or hexamethylene tetramine, thiolacetic acid or polyethylene glycol. Fillers such as carbon black, zinc oxide and infusorial earth may be added in emulsion form or directly, but independently, into the drying chamber while the latex is dried.ALSO:A process for obtaining dried products from natural or synthetic rubber latex comprises changing the isoelectric point of the particles in the discontinuous phase by adding a surface active agent and then increasing the charge density of the particles by adding an acid salt or the like ionizable compound, and drying the mixture.
