The sinker catchbar SCB and the divider catch-bar DB are moved independently; and by adjusting the relative advances of divider D and sinkers S when in the stitch-measuring positions LD, LS, the degree of misalignment between dividers and sinkers may be made such as to provide a substantial uniformity between the appearance of jack sinker and divider loops, despite the set SPB previously produced by the needles during sinkering and drawn into the divided loops during dividing: alternatively the misalignment may be made such as to accentuate the dissimilarity, for patterning purposes. The horizontal reciprocation of the sinker catch-bar may be imparted by a cam 12 on the mainshaft, through a lever system 10, pivoted at 11 and the rise and fall by a cam 16, through a lever system 14, pivoted at 15. The independent movement of the divider bar may be effected by a cam 19, having a radially adjustable piece 20, controlling the stitch measuring position and acting through a lever system 17, pivoted at 18. Fig. 8 shows the verge plate V carried by the sinker head H. Fig. 11 shows the sinker catch-bar SCB<SP>1</SP> carrying the verge plate V<SP>1</SP> and similar latch slides SLM<SP>1</SP>, biased by U-springs WS<SP>1</SP>. The relative misalignment of the sinkers and dividers may also be varied by varying slightly the position of the verge plate V<SP>1</SP>. Specifications 683,826 and 683,858 are referred to.
