Abstract

722,242. Drawing compasses. THORNTON, Ltd., A. G. Nov. 12, 1953 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 28466/52. Class 97 (3). Drawing compasses having legs relatively adjustable by means in screwed engagement with a bar or rod extending between the legs have releasable screw - and - nut mechanism for quick adjustment. As shown, each leg 1 is bored to receive an adjusting screw 2 having oppositely threaded halves. The leg is also bored to receive a plunger 4 urged outwardly by springs 5, in holes ic in the leg, acting under the head. The plunger has a transverse bore 3 half the circumference of which is threaded and held in engagement with the screw 2 by the springs 5. In a spring bow compass the threads on the rod are of buttress form directed to resist the outward spring force on the legs.
