Abstract
721,753. Ratchet gearing. SIEMENS BROS., & CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1952 [Oct. 5, 1951], No. 23233/51. Class 80 (3). In an electromagnetically actuated ratchet gear the armature 12 pivoted at 13 has an extension 14 carrying in addition to a driving pawl 15 a stopping pawl 16 engaging the teeth of the ratchet wheel 5 to prevent over-running of the wheel. The stopping pawl is of substantially U-shape and engages the longer flanks of the ratchet teeth by an outer side face in a trailing manner. A retaining pawl 22 also engages the wheel to prevent reverse rotation. Both the driving and stopping pawl may be of spring strip material, the stopping pawl preferably being thicker or backed by a reinforcing member. Alternatively the driving pawl may be pivoted and subjected to spring pressure and may carry the stopping pawl as an extension of rigid or spring form.
