Abstract
663,826. Ratchet gearing. BARKER-COLMAN CO. Aug. 7, 1947 [Dec. 24, 1943], No. 21636/47. Class 80 (iii) [Also in Group IX] A rack 32 is advanced by a pinion 31 and a ratchet wheel 30 carried by a lever loaded by a spring 33. A driving pawl 30a is continuously oscillated by an eccentric 46a and is always in engagement with the wheel, the drive being made effective by a holding pawl 45. When the load on the rack exceeds the force of the spring 33, the pinion 32 rolls along the rack, without advancing it, until the hold. ing pawl 45 encounters a stop 49 (as shown); the ratchet wheel is then oscillated idly by the driving pawl until, when the load decreases, the spring 33 advances the rack, again bringing the ratchet wheel into contact with the holding pawl 45.
