721,142. Converting. BRITISH COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION, Ltd., HEFTMAN, T. S., and SIEKIERSKI, W. Jan. 29, 1951 [Oct. 28, 1949], No. 27735/49. Class 38 (2). An electric power supply apparatus of the type comprising a transformer and a vibrator device, the vibrator device having contacts for connecting the two ends of the secondary winding of the transformer alternately to an output terminal of the apparatus, has a second output terminal of the apparatus connected to a tapping on the transformer secondary winding through a rectifier, the tap being displaced from the electrical centre of the winding. A synchronous vibrator 10 is arranged to pass current from a battery 21 alternately through each half of a primary winding 18 of a transformer 11, thus producing a voltage of alternating current form in the secondary winding 22 which is then rectified by the vibrator, thus producing a direct voltage of higher magnitude at terminals 25, 26. A terminal 27 is connected through a gas-filled double diode rectifier 12 to two taps on the secondary winding 22 which are equispaced about the electrical centre of the winding, thus producing between terminals 26, 27 a direct voltage of higher magnitude than that between terminals 25, 26. The magnitude of the voltage between terminals 27, 26 may be varied by altering the connections to other taps on the secondary winding.
