Abstract
720,994. Air brakes for vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. June 15, 1953. [June 14, 1952], No. 16482/53. Class 103 (1). In an air resistance brake for a motor vehicle, a braking flap 4 is pivotable about a horizontal transverse axis 3 disposed about the upper boundary 1 of the vehicle body and is distinguished by lateral parts of the flap, when in the braking position, extending downwardly externally along the side wall 2 of the vehicle body to a point below the upper boundary of the body in the corresponding cross-sectional plane. When a parking action is required and the parts are in the position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, a pull may be exerted in the direction C on a sliding element 12. The sliding element 12 is then moved downwardly against the force of the spring 11, a shaped extension 13 is disengaged from a notch 16 and the braking flap 4 can be pivoted in the direction A, to the position shown in Fig. 2, under the influence of the spring-loaded rod 20, fitted with a rubber buffer 18, being exerted against the rear portion of the braking flap. The pivoting movement is terminated when the front portion of the braking flap 4 bears against a rubber buffer 15. The braking flap is returned to its non-braking position by exerting a pull in the direction B to engage the extension 13, of the sliding element 12, in the notch 16. Intermediate notches, e.g. 17, may be provided to retain the braking flap 4 in partial braking positions.
