A hand brake actuating arrangement for motor vehicles is characterized in that the actuating member is a pull member arranged to be drawn vertically, or approximately vertically, upwards and is disposed directly by the side of the driver's seat. As shown, a hand grip 6 on a pull member 3 is placed by the side of the driver's seat 1, the member 3 being guided at 7 and connected to a brake-operating linkage 4, 5 disposed beneath the floor 2 of a vehicle.
