Abstract

719,527. Operating clutches. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 32681/52. Class 80 (2) [Also in Group VIII] A clutch collar 264 in the drive of a machine for roughing shoe soles (see Group VIII) is urged by the action of internal springs into frictional driven relation with the face of a driving pulley 254 when a 'shifter lever 348 is released from its engagement with a spring- loaded latch 350 mounted in a tube 354 pivoted on a belt-crank 358. The actuation of the starting lever of the machine operates through linkage to permit a spring 408 to set a hook 366 into engagement with the end of the latch (which projects through a recess in the lever 348) and, when later in the machine cycle a lever 400 swings forwardly the link 394 carrying the hook, the latch is moved so that its shoulder 352 is disengaged from the lever. Towards the end of the cycle, a cam 362 acts upon a roll 360 on the bell-crank 358 to re-set the latch and through the lever 348 cause the collar 264 to engage a braking flange 266.
