Abstract
719,480. Centrifugal separators. VORKAUF, H. Jan. 26, 1953 [Feb. 15, 1952] No. 4072/52. Class 23 [Also in Group XIII] In a return flow steam boiler, the steam-water mixture from the generating tube system 5 passes at high velocity into a cyclone separator 7, the separated steam flowing to the steam drum 1 through a pipe 8 whilst the water passes to the downcomer pipe 2 through a pipe 11. The separator may also act as a sediment collector, a plate 12 (see Fig. 3), dividing the casing 9 into two compartments. Separated water passes downwardly through an annular gap around the plate into the lower part of the casing wherein the sediment is removed by centrifugal force and can be drained off periodically through a pipe 14. Alternatively as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the separator may consist of a vertically positioned cylindrical casing 18 in which a pipe 21, slotted at 22, is eccentrically mounted. steam-water mixture entering the casing from pipes 19,20 flows tangentially into pipe 21 where separation occurs, steam escaping from the top of the pipe whilst water discharges from the bottom.
