773,343. Centrifugal separators. STICHTING VOOR FUNDAMENTEEL ONDERZOEK DER MATERIE. March 7, 1955 [March 8, 1954], No. 6646/55. Class 23 [Also in Group,XL(a)] Nuclear fuel in the form of a suspen sion of solid fissile material in a liquid such as common or heavy water flows through a multiplicity of reactor tubes located within the reactor, the suspension being thickened befre it enters the reactor tubes 3 and diluted after its passing through the reactor tubes, to a pumpable suspension. At the top of each reactor tube 3 the discharge aperture 8 of a hydrocyclone thickener 6 debouches, the overflow aperture of said hydrocyclone being formed in the end of an overflow pipe 9, debouching centralling into the hydrocyclone and passing via the discharge aperture through the reactor tube to within a short distance from the lower end of the reactor tube. Preferably the tube 9 extends along the wall 4 of the tube 3 thereby reducing the capture of neutrons by the liquid therein, and has a tangential discharge to promote mixing at 20. The circuit for the fissile material is similar to that described in Specification 757,015 [Group XL(a)]. Specifications 752,152 and 775,495 [both in Group XL(a)] also are referred to.
