Abstract
<PICT:0718307/IV (b)/1> Anthraquinones are hydrogenated to anthraquinhydrones or anthraquinols in a vessel 1 having one or more open-ended vertical tubes 5 disposed therein, to the lower end of which hydrogen is admitted through a distributor 6. The anthraquinone admitted at 2 is maintained at a level 9 above the top of tube 5 and is withdrawn through filter 4 and outlet 3. A finely divided palladium catalyst prepared, e.g. according to Specification 718,306, [Group III], is added to the liquid and maintained in suspension by the gas current. Specification 718,305 also is referred to.ALSO:<PICT:0718307/III/1> Anthraquinones are hydrogenated to anthraquinhydrones or anthraquinols for use in hydrogen peroxide manufacture in a vessel 1 having one or more open-ended vertical tubes 5 disposed therein, to the lower end of which hydrogen is admitted through a distributer 6. The anthraquinone is maintained at a level 9 above the top of tube 5 and the product is withdrawn through a filter 4 and outlet 3. The vessel contains a finely divided palladium catalyst prepared e.g. according to Specification 718,306 and kept in suspension by the gas current. Specification 718,305 also is referred to.
