Abstract

718,166. Domestic hearths. NEWTON, CHAMBERS & CO., Ltd. Oct. 29, 1953, [Sept. 17, 1952.] No. 23354/52. Class 126. In a domestic hearth 2 having an integral curb 4, the latter is provided with openings 8 through which ashes may be swept into a pan. The openings may be arranged either at the front end of each side of the curb or, as shown, at the rear end. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the front of the curb is formed with a wide opening 20 and a retaining wall 22 is so arranged as to provide gaps through which ashes may be swept sideways. The outer face of the hearth may be undercut at 12, Fig. 1, beneath the openings 8 to accommodate the edge of an ash-receiving pan.
