Abstract

716,506. Lamp-holders. LAMBERT, W. R. Aug. 5, 1952, [Nov. 16, 1951.] No. 26915/51. Class 38(1). A lampholder, particularly for temporary use, comprises an outer shell i and an inner insulating plug 2 which has a cable-receiving groove 3 into which pointed cable piercing members extend. These members may be, in the case of a bayonettype holder, extensions of the normal spring- plunger contacts Fig. 1, (not shown) or, as shown i Fig. 4, upturned parts 13 of contact strips (only one of which is shown) the upper ends 12 of which seat in recesses in the groove 3, while the lower ends are bent over at 16 to form the contacts proper, the intervening parts 14 being wavy to provide the contact pressure. For an Edison-screw type holder, strips 18, 18a having points 19, 19a, respectively, pass down grooves in the side of the plug, one being inturned.to form the centre contact 20 and the other ribbed at 21 to engage the. lamp-cap thread. In both forms, a cap 7 has means for snap engagement with the shell 1, such as the grooved flange 8 and rib 6 shown, or hooks on the cap engaging slots in the shell. The top of the shell could be of reduced diameter so that when the cap is in place a uniform-diameter holder is obtained. The shell and plug may alternatively be integrally moulded.
