715,923. Centrifugal fans. SCHEID, A. M., SCHEID, E. M., and SCHEID, W. M., [trading as VORWERK & CO.]. May 7, 1952 [May 10, 1951], No. 11546/52. Class 110(1) To protect the user of a vacuum cleaner from electrical shock, the impeller, which can be touched by the user when the suction nozzle is removed from the suction aperture of the vacuum cleaner housing, is electrically insulated from the driving shaft by a cap of insulating material which at the same time covers the free end end of the shaft. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the metal impeller 6 is insulated from the driving motor shaft 5 by a rubber cap 8. A flange 8<SP>1</SP> of the cap separates the impeller hub 9 from an adjacent shoulder of the shaft. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the insulation is in the form of a rubber coating 10 which is advantageously sprayed on to the impeller. The rubber coating protects the impeller blades 7 from damage by metal objects drawn in by the vacuum cleaner, and reduces noise. In an alternative construction, the impeller blades are of rubber and are integral with the rubber coating 10.
