Abstract

715,540. Toothed gearing. TISON, R. A. April 9, 1952 [April 12, 1951], No. 9141/52. Class 80 (1) [Also in Group XVI] A mechanism for causing reciprocating motion of a frame 11, over which passes a web for printing (see Group XVI) comprises a boxlike member 12 having spaced walls formed with racks 32. 32<SP>1</SP> and 33, 33' each pair having oppositely inclined teeth facilitating engagement of a gear wheel 24 having similar teeth 25, 25<SP>1</SP> The shaft 26 carrying the gear wheel 24 also, carries a cam 28 formed with a peripheral cam slot 29 in which is engaged a follower 31 secured on a bracket. The shape of the slot 29 is such that the gear teeth 25, 25' engage alternately with one or other of the sets of rack teeth. The starting-end teeth of each set of rack teeth are cut away so that engagement shall be first made on that side of each rack of which the teeth slope in the same direction as that part of the cam slot 29 causing the change-over thus permitting a clear entry of the inter-engaging teeth.
