Abstract
715,214. Manure distributers. RAYNER, J. Dec. 3, 1952 [Jan. 4, 1952], No. 344/52. Class 6(1) Apparatus for fertilizing the soil prior to planting crops, such as tobacco and cabbages comprises two co-axially arranged soil deflector discs 15, set at an angle to the axis, for forming a pair of furrows, a container 3 for fertilizer with outlets 16 behind each deflector, and a centrally-arranged shoe 17 adapted to turn the soil of the ridge between the furrows laterally into the furrow whilst simultaneously digging a furrow for receiving plants. In the machine shown, the container 3 is mounted on a tractor, and the parts 15, 16, are carried by a frame 9 connected to hydraulic lift mechanism. The discs 15 may be mounted for vertical and angular adjustment. The apparatus may be combined with a planting machine, and in such a construction the furrow-forming shoe 17 is followed by means for watering the furrow at intervals, means for placing the plants in the watered furrow, and lastly by a pair of presser wheels as in Specification 652,938 so disposed as to press the soil against the roots of the plants.
