Abstract

Class 40 (4) The output of a piezo-electric earpiece is damped, and the crystal protected from shock, by a resilient pad 4 which is interposed between a bender type piezo-electric crystal 5 and a diaphragm 3. As shown in Fig. 1, a rectangular crystal and a sponge rubber pad of somewhat larger dimensions are adhered to the diaphragm which is secured at its edge between a cover plate 11 and a casing 1 with an intermediate rubber sealing band 10. Terminals 6, 7 are provided which may be connected to a high resistance to reduce high frequency response. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) and Fig. 4, a further resilient pad 12 is fitted between the crystal and the casing. A rubber cup 13 may also be substituted for the sealing band and cover the edge of the diaphragm and the crystal, the further pad 12 being optionally provided. According to the Specification the diaphragm may be omitted, the crystal and pad being then mounted on the cover plate.
