Abstract
714,470. X-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 11, 1952 [Aug. 18, 1951], No. 20159/52. Class 39(1) The anode target of an X-ray tube is formed by a metal in liquid condition, confined behind an electron-permeable wall. In Fig. 2 this wall 24 is part of a beryllium cup 30, and the liquid target metal circulates behind it, through conduits 35, 36, thus forming at the same time a circulating system for cooling. In a simpler embodiment, Fig. 5, the liquid metal merely passes through a tube 30<SP>1</SP> disposed in the electron beam 22. Suitable metals are mercury, and others having a low melting- point in the range 60-327C, such as bismuth, lead, tin, thallium, lithium, sodium, potassium, or alloys of these. A further cooling system may surround the tube envelope.
