714,300. Retractive switches. ABBEY, A. (Crane Packing Co.). May 5, 1952, No. 11314/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] In a power-operated electric hand tool, e.g. a drill or saw but shown as a motor driven tube expander, a hollow U-shaped handle 16 pivoted at 15 to the tool body 14 carries a micro switch 20 operable through a roller 33 mounted on an arm 31. On application of the tool to the work the handle 16 rotates about the pivot 15 against the action of a spring 23 and a pin 22 fixed to the body 14 engages the .roller 33 to operate the switch button 34 and start the motor. On withdrawal of the tool the switch 20 operates to stop the motor. Stops 36 in the handle co-operate with lugs 35 on the pin 22 to limit the handle movement; also a slot 37 is formed in the handle so that when the pivot pin 15 is removed and the handle rotated through 90 degrees about the pin 22 to align the lugs 35 with the slot 37, the handle may be removed. The handle also carries the usual motor starting switch 18. The switches 18, 20 are connected to a torque control device (not shown) which causes reversal of the motor at a predetermined torque.
