Abstract

1,102,888. Impact tools. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 30 June, 1965 [1 July, 1964], No. 27624/65. Headings B3C and B3N. [Also in Division B4] A hand-held rotary impact tool such as for hammering or chiselling, comprises a hammer member 17 rotatable with and axially movable on a shaft 14 driven by an electric motor, the hammer being provided with abutments 25, 26 adapted to strike the tool bit 29 after the hammer has been axially moved via a ball-andinclined groove connection 20, 22 against the action of a spring 18 and then suddenly released. The hammer 17 is provided with a pair of abutments which coact with a further pair of abutments 26, 27, Fig. 2 (not shown), on a coupling member 16, the latter abutments being arranged to transmit the hammer blow to the tool bit 29. In operation, when the tool bit is pressed against a workpiece so that its shank is in the position shown, the abutment 27 contacts the shank and thereby causes the abutments 24, 25 to ride up aganst the pressure of the spring until they disengage from the abutments 26, 27 and are then driven down rapidly in an impact stroke. A rubber buffer 34 is arranged to co-operate with a flange 32 on the tool bit ; the latter is guided for longitudinal movement only by means of a pin-andslot device 36, 37. In a modification the coupling member may be formed as a chuck in order to hold a screw-driving tool. Mechanism may be provided for rotating the tool bit in addition to the vibratory movement so that it may be used for drilling.
