Abstract

521,235. Retractive switches. BLACK & DECKER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 7, 1938, No. 24269/39. Convention date, July 19, 1938. [Divided out of 519,504] [Group XXII]. [Class 38 (v) ] A portable electric drill of the kind described in Specification 519,504 is controlled by a switch 80 which has an operating lever 82 biassed towards the off position by a spring 85 and having an arm 84<1> formed at its end with a ball 85<1> for engagement with the cupped end 81 of a lever for operating the switch. The switch is mounted on a plate 76, so that after connections are made by means of leads 95, 95' the switch is applied to the tool and held in position by screws 79 passing through plate 76. In this position a ball 70 on the end of the operating lever 82 is in operative engagement with a sliding trigger 68 adapted for operation by the index finger of the hand grasping the tool. To lock the switch in the on position, a button 89 is depressed against the action of a spring 88 to cause an enlarged head 94 to engage behind the hooked end 86 of the operating lever. The switch is released by a further depression of trigger 68.
