Abstract

714,050. Water-tube steam boilers; superheating. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Nov. 10, 1950 [Nov. 10, 1949], No. 28866/49. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) In a superheating boiler two parallelconnected gas passes lead laterally from a single combustion chamber to a single uptake; both the passes contain vapour generating tube banks and a super heater is contained in. one of the passes; a damping device is located on the uptake side of the banks. As shown, fuel enters the combustion chamber 19 from burners 49 and the hot gasses flow laterally through the water-tube screen 51 into the two parallel gas passes 135, 137, and upwardly through two main outlets, not shown. The outlets lead to a common uptake and are each controlled by a separate damper. The passes 135, 137 are separated by a baffle wall 53 comprising tubes 65, the spaces between which are filled with refractory material. Pass 135 contains the superheater 105 and the vapour generating tube banks 95, 97. Pass 137 contains the vapour generating tube banks 75, 77. Cooling air enters the casing at the rear and passes round the boiler to the front where it is fed to the burners. In one modification (not shown) the baffle is formed of a double wall enclosing an inspection space and in a second embodiment, not shown, the superheater element extends from 135 into 137.
