Abstract

Class 100 (1) Sheet separators; pile tables and supports.- Apparatus for separating individual sheets or the like from a stack 2 comprises a rockable frame 5 carrying a hollow shaft 11 fitted with rollers 12 and suckers 13, a gear 9 co-operating with a rack 10 whereby the shaft and suckers are rotated during the rocking of the frame to effect separation of the sheet from the stack. Feed rollers 15, 18, 19 are also mounted on the rocking levers 5. The levers 5 are rocked by means of cams 7 co-operating with roilers 8 on the levers 5. The arrangement is such that in the position shown in Fig. 1 suction is applied to the suckers 13 so that on lowering of the rocking levers 5 the suckers, in rotating in a clockwise direction due to the action of the rack 10 and pinion 9 arrangement, take the lowermost sheet which is grasped by the driven rollers 15 and fed between driven rollers 18, 19. At the same time a stop 17 restrains the remainder of the stack in the correct position. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) separation of the sheets may be assisted by providing blowers acting between the separated sheet and the remainder of the stack, and the stack retaining stops may be rotatably mounted on the levers 5 and operated so that they push the upper edge of the remainder of the stack away from the separated sheet. Feed rollers.-The feed rollers 15, 18, 19 are all mounted on the levers 5 and are rocked therewith. The rollers 15 are further provided with cut out portions 34 so that the separated sheet is not positively grasped for feeding until the lowermost position of the levers 5 is reached, Fig. 2 (not shown).
