Abstract

623,663. Feeding sheets. BACKHOUSE, H. T. May 9, 1947, No. 12535. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] A sheet feeding device in combination with an addressing machine comprises means for supporting two separate stacks of sheets of different kinds, two sheet separating and forwarding mechanisms arranged to separate the sheets singly from the two stacks and feed them to the printing station of the addressing machine and -means for operating the two mechanisms to feed the sheets alternately to the printing station. Sheets are fed alternately from the top of a stack 6 supported on a rising platform and the bottom of a stack 7 which may be of envelopes. From the stack 6 the sheets are separated by oscillating suction grippers 15 actuated by a cam 17 through a link 19, and are forwarded to the printing station of an addressing machine of known type by a cam 22 through a bell crank lever 23. The sheets from the stack 6 are registered by angle plates 14. After printing the sheets are conveyed by suction grippers 12 to a tray 11. Envelopes are separated from the bottom of the stack 7 by suction grippers 30 and are forwarded by grippers 32 operated by cams 33, 34 to the printing station where they are registered by angle plates 13. In a modification sheets are fed along opposed paths from two stacks to a reception station from where they are fed by conveyer tapes to a printing station.
