Abstract
549,610. Feeding sheets. BRITISH CELLOPHANE, Ltd. May 26, 1941. No. 6749. Convention date, June 1, 1940. [Class 100 (i)] A sheet-feeding apparatus, which is especially applicable for feeding a number of sheets at a time from inclined stacks 11 of coarse sheets of fibrous cellulose in the preparation of alkali cellulose to a hopper 75 leading to the machine for treating the sheets, comprises means for stacking the sheets on belts 13 which are advanced intermittently by a ratchet 17 operated by a pawl 21 on a lever 23 oscillated by a cam 25, or are driven continuously by timed gearing. The separation of the required number of sheets is effected by a reciprocating blade 39 which is inserted periodically between sheets of the stack and is thenoscillated away from the pile so as to direct the separated sheets to a hopper 25, the bottom of the sheets being guided by a curved member 49 fixed to the slide which carries the blade 39. The stacks 11 are preferably supported by two sets of conveyers spaced apart to provide room for the blade 39 and its mechanism, and the stacks are preferably supported in an inclined position by means of supporting members 51 comprising a flat bottom 53, and back 55 connected at one side by a brace 57 fitted with a handle to facilitate withdrawal. Specification 208,384, [Class 100 (i)], is referred to.
