Abstract

1,094,401. Feeding sheets. LEIPZIGER BUCHBINDEREIMASCHINENWERKE VEB. Feb. 23, 1965, No. 7794/65. Heading B6B. In apparatus in which folded sheets are fed from a stack 1 to e.g. the saddle 7 of a stitching machine, and the sheets are separated from the stack by suction devices 6 engaging the folded edges and rotating relatively to a rotary carrier 5 on which they are mounted, the stack is supported partly by rollers 4 on the carrier and partly by a spring finger 9 mounted on a usual pile-retaining tongue 3. With stiff sheets the finger yields to a greater extent than with thin sheets to permit of the required separation of the bottom sheet of the pile. An additional spring finger 11 requiring greater force to deflect it than the spring 9, may be provided, if even stiffer sheets are being dealt with or instead of spring 11, the tongue 3 may be pivoted at its upper end and spring-biased to the left at its lower end. The sheets are taken from the suction devices 6 by grippers 16 which as they pass over a chain wheel 17, and in conjunction with a deflector 15, open the folded sheets and deposit them on the saddle 7 as described in Specification 1,018,160.
