713,973. Centrifugal spinning mechanism for yarns. McCANN, J. J. Jan. 4, 1952 [Jan. 23, 1951], No. 322/52. Addition to 669,877. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) In a centrifugal. spinning machine as described in the parent Specification wherein a flexible, resilient sheet is expanded to provide a support for the yarn package formed in a pot, the flexible sheet is held by the traversing yarn guide until it is expanded upon the application of a brake to the rotating pot. The yarn guide comprises a tube 7 slidable on a tube 6 carried by an arm 15 pivoted on a rod 11, so that the tubes 6, 7 may be moved clear of the pot 2 for removal of yarn and application of an expansible sheet 48, Figs. 1 and 6, around the tube 7. In order to wind the sheet 48 round the tube 7, tool 53, Fig. 9, is employed to rotate a sleeve 42, Fig. 8, mounted on ball-bearings 44 on the tube 7 and to which the sheet 48 is attached by a fastening 46. After the sheet 48 has been wound, the sleeve 42 is raised into a chamber 56 in a housing 8 integral with an arm 9, Fig. 1, slidable on the rod 11. Reciprocation of the tube 7 is effected through the housing 8, the arm 9, a sleeve 10, coupled to the rod 11 by a pin 30 normally held in a recess 29,. and a reciprocating bar 25. All the pots on a machine can be doffed simultaneously by moving a bar 38 longitudinally, which movement disengages the pin 30 from the recess 29 associated with each pot, so that each sleeve 10 no longer follows the reciprocations of the bar 25. The pin 10 is. rotated sufficiently to pass beneath a shoulder 31, so that a downward stroke of the sleeve 26 draws down the sleeve 10, the arm 9, the .housing 8 and brake shoes 60 that press upon the cover of the pot. The engagement of the brake shoes with the pot cover causes a partial rotation of the brake shoes which are connected by a cable 72 to a release catch for the sheet 48, thereby ejecting the sheet from the housing 8 and expanding it against the yarn.
