Abstract
601,727. Winding thread. SCHARER, K. J., (trading as MASCHINENFABRIK SCHARER). July 29, 1944, Nos. 14534 and 14535. Convention dates, Aug. 31, 1943 and Oct. 25, 1943. [Class 120(ii)] In a winding machine for producing tubular cops, a revoluble member 2 carrying several winding spindles 5, intermittently moves the winding spindles individually within range of a press member 7 which acts on the cop in process of formation so as to advance it along its winding spindle, a counter-holder 11 for receiving the front end of said tubular cop and having a thread catch being moved along with the growing cop and serving on its return movement into its initial position to intercept the winding thread of the finished tubular cop leaving the working position and pass it over to the winding spindle next arriving thereat. As shown, the member 2 is mounted on a central shaft 3 and carries three winding. spindles 5. The winding thread passes through a reciprocating thread guide 8. An auxiliary guide 9 mounted on a stationary support operates when the thread passes over from a finished cop to the next winding spindle in use. In the winding position a spindle 5 is situated opposite to the counter holder 11 supported by a slide 12 on a carrier rod 13 and connected with a tension member 14 weighted at 16. A slide 19 is reciprocated along two superposed carrier bars 17, 18 by a rod 20 having a spring 21 mounted on a shaft which drives through gearing 24, 25 a shaft carrying on the opposite side of the gear box 1 a cam disc 27 which operates a rod 29 having a halfcone shell 30. In its working position the spindle 5 is driven by a shaft 33 and after the cop A has reached the prescribed length the crank 22 automatically rotates through one revolution to reciprocate the slide 19. On its advance stroke the slide 19 displaces the slide 12 and retracts counter holder 11. The member 2 then rotates in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 3, to bring an empty winding spindle 5 into the working position, the wound cop moving into contact with the half-cone shell 30. During this rotary movement the slide 19 returns into its inoperative position and the counter holder 11 moves up to the winding spindle 5, Fig. 5. In this movement the slide 19 displaces the auxiliary guide 9 from its rest position, Fig. 10, to the position shown in Fig. 11 so that the winding thread is caught by the finger 11<SP>1</SP> on the counter holder 11 and wound on to the spindle 5, Fig. 6. As the cop is formed the counter holder is pressed backwardly so that the thread slides out of the finger 11<SP>1</SP>, Simultaneously with the reciprocation of the slide 19 the cam disc 27 is rotated and by means of the rod 29 the half-cone 30 pushes the previously wound cop A off the winding spindle. The counter holder may comprise a conical socket 35 mounted on ball bearings 36 in a sleeve 37 secured to the body 11 which is rotatably mounted on a stud 39 in a member 40 and carries a disc 41 of relatively great inertia. Catches 11<SP>1</SP> may not be provided in this modification, the lag of the body 11, due to the disc 41, behind the spindle 5, resulting in a tightening or breakage of the thread between the body 11 and the faster rotating spindle 5.
