Class 80 (3) [Also in Group XXIX] A linkage adapted to hold a member A in a fixed relative position with respect to a member B against the influence of a spririg b or other loading comprises -a strut member d pivoted at one end at e by the member A and engaging at its other end an abutment member f which has a pivotal connection at g with lugs h of the member B. The abutment f has a flat face containing its pivot axis g so that it can be tilted to positions f or f<SP>11</SP> with little effort since it does not move the strut d against the spring loading. When the abutment plate is tilted to position f the strut d tends to slide to the right, but this is prevented by a stop j so that the member A is . held positively in relation to member B. If the abutment plate is moved to f<SP>11</SP> the strut d slides to the left and acts at an increasing distance from the pivot g of the plate under the action of the spring b until it collapses to release the member A.which then moves towards the member B. In a modified arrangement, the strut d engages the abutment plate f through a roller which is offset from the centre line of the member A to allow the abutment plate to swing clear of the path of the pivot of the strut member when the mechanism is released. The abutment plate may also be spring-biased against a controlling stop when the mechanism is in the holding position so that when the said stop is removed the biasing spring can effect an initial tilt of the plate to move the strut over the dead centre position and effect the release of the mechanism under the action of the spring b. The application of this arrangement to the actuation of an oxygen supply valve by the member A under control of a pressuresensitive device in the pressurized cabin of an aircraft and coupled to the controlling stop is described.
