Abstract
Insoluble matter formed in the solution, when phosphating metal articles by spraying, is removed therefrom by substantially continuous circulation of the solution through a circuit which is separate from the spraying circuit and contains a centrifuge. The latter is preferably of the type having a removable bowl or tube on which the solid matter is deposited. The temperature of the solution passing through the centrifuge may be reduced, or the free acid content increased, or both, e.g. by adding phosphoric acid or a primary metal phosphate in cold aqueous solution.
