Abstract

A fluxing composition for use in the manufacture of a paint like mixture containing powdered solder and a fluxing composition comprising a flux and a gum as a suspending agent for the solder particles, contains at least one non-metallic organic wetting agent. A polyethylene oxide derivative of lauric acid 2.5-3 per cent. of the composition; a lauryl sulphate neutralized with ammonia 2.5 per cent. or an alkylated phenol-ethylene oxide containing a polyethylene glycol chain 2.5-3 per cent. may be employed as wetting agents alone or mixed. An example of a liquid fluxing composition contains the following in percentages:- .Gum tragacanth.0.5-2.5.preferably.1.75 .Methylated spirit.1.5-4.5.".3.75 .Water.20 - 50.".34.5 .Ammonium chloride.4 - 10.".6.25 .Zinc chloride.30 - 60.".51.25 .Organic wetting agent.0.1-20.".2.5 20 per cent of the composition is mixed with 80 per cent solder to give a paint or paste.
