Abstract
A composition for removing beerstone and like deposits from surfaces comprises ammonium and/or an alkali metal bisulphate together with a suitable oxidizing agent, the proportion of bisulphate being sufficient to give a concentration of at least 30 per cent available sulphuric acid when the composition is mixed with sufficient water to form a paste or paint of a suitable consistency for application. While percarbonates and perborates are also mentioned, the preferred oxidizing agents are ammonium and/or alkali metal persulphates, and the compositions generally comprise also a binder or carrier such as china clay. Preferred compositions contain 77-94 per cent, preferably 85.7 per cent, of ammonium bisulphate, 1-7 per cent, preferably 3.6 per cent, of ammonium persulphate, and 5-22 per cent, preferably 10.7 per cent, of china clay, made into a paste or paint with up to 10 per cent of water based on the total weight of the other ingredients.
