Abstract
711,902. Burners. PEABODY, Ltd. Oct. 6, 1950 [Oct. 6, 1949], No. 24484/50. Class 75 (1) A fuel burner has a tube 10 having an air inlet opening 21 at its forward end and a burner-throat sleeve 36 enclosed within its rearward end, the sleeve 36 having an axially adjustable forward section 37 with an air inlet 38 and being spaced inwardly from and sealed to the tube at its rearward end so that the air is directed inwardly to flow without rotation through said sleeve, and means being provided for projecting pulverized fuel, atomized liquid fuel or gaseous fuel transversely into the air stream in said sleeve. As shown in Fig. 1, the air inlet opening 21 is in the periphery of the tube 10 and is provided with a slidably adjustable perforated baffle 22 to diffuse the air entering the tube 10. The sleeve portion 37 is slidably adjustable in the sleeve part 36 which is formed on an inward flange 35 at the rear end of the tube 10, the tube also having an outward flange 25 to which is bolted a gas ring 27 which is in turn bolted to a furnace front 29. Extending axially of the tube 10 is an atomizer barrel 16 terminating within the sleeve 36, 37 in a spray nozzle 17 which carries a diffuser 19. In a modified arrangement shown in Fig. 3 the gas ring 27 is omitted and the rear end of the tube is bolted to the furnace front 29 to clamp therebetween a flange 41 of a refractory-like supporting ring which carries a slidably adjustable sleeve 43. The sleeve 43 has an air inlet opening 45 of the same diameter as the burner throat which in this case is formed by a ring of tile 46 in the ring 40. The tile 46 has a conical rear opening 47 to form an extension of the conical opening 48 in the furnace front.
