Abstract
620,343. Gas-turbine combustion chambers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd.; and ASHWOOD, P. F. Jan. 9, 1947, Nos. 765 and 766. [Class 51 (i)] The air stream to a combustion chamber is divided by a wall 8, the larger part passing through a diffuser passage 11 surrounding the upstream end of the flame tube 4 and the lesser part passing through perforations 16, 17, 18 in a conical member 5 into the inner region of the up-stream spray of fuel issuing from a nozzle 6, which is of the spill-controlled type. Part of the air passed through the diffuser 11 enters the flame tube 4 through holes 19 in the region of the reversal of flame direction, a further part enters the tube through holes 20 as secondary combustion air and the rest passes through holes 21 and serves as diluent air. The holes 21 may be continued into the flame tube by scoop-like parts which are open on the up-stream side. The flared end 13 of the flame tube is spaced from the duct 1. A circular arrangement of combustion chambers may be disposed in an annular ducting which provides a diffusing passage between it and the chambers and the upstream ends of the combustion chambers lie close to the compressor outlets.
