Abstract

711,416. Belt gearing. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. May 29, 1952 [May 31, 1951; May 31, 1951], No. 13626/52. Class 80 (1) [Also in Group XXIII] A dual-speed rotary drive for the tool of a grinding machine (see Group XXIII) is derived from separate electric motors which drive a common pulley 238 through V-belts 239, 241 and over-run clutches. The arrangement is such that, with the low-speed motor 257 running continuously, the over-run clutch on the shaft of the high-speed motor slips until this motor is started to provide the high-speed drive when the clutch on the shaft of the low-speed motor slips. The over-run clutches are of the kind in which cam members are arranged in radial fashion in an annular gap between the driving and driven members.
