Abstract

711,328. Belt gearing. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 8, 1952 [Oct. 1, 1951], No. 22465/52. Class 80 (1) [Also in Group VII] A driving-belt pulley comprises two dishshaped discs 44, 45, Figs. 2 and 3, which may be secured to a hub 40, in either of two arrangements as shown to provide either a flat or a concave belt-engaging surface so that the pulley may be adapted to engage the outer surface of a belt 13 of trapezoidal or of circular crosssection. A flange on the hub 40 carries one or more locating pins which engage apertures in the discs, a securing nut 48 and washer being threaded on the shaft 23 on which the hub 40 is held by a set screw. The disc 44 has a cylindrical rim portion 53 for engaging a trapezoidal belt, Fig. 2, and a segmental rim portion 52 which in the Fig. 3 arrangement co-operates with a similar portion on the disc 45 for engaging a circular belt. In each arrangement the belt is in the same position relatively to the hub 40. In a modification a pulley is formed by two discs whose rim portions are shaped as in Figs. 2 and 3 but whose body portions are planar rather than dished, one disc being welded to the hub while the other is associated with a spacing collar threaded on the shaft 23 and .apertured to interlock with buttons on the two discs. In a further modification Fig. 7, a pulley comprises similar discs 84, 85 each having a segmental and a cylindrical rim portion, a spacing collar 86 and a hub 98, the members being interlocked by a pin 100 pressed in the collar. The pulley 25, Fig. 1, drives the bobbin winder attachment on a table 11 to which various interchangeable sewing machines 12 may be secured. The attachment comprises a base plate 15 adjustably secured to the table and supporting a swingable frame 22 in which is journalled a shaft carrying the pulley 25 and bobbin 24. The pulley is pressed against the belt 13 by straightening two toggle links 31, 32, the link 32 carrying a spring finger 33 which bears on the thread on the bobbin so that at a predetermined size of thread package the toggle is broken and the pulley 25 is disengaged from the belt 13.
