Abstract
710,911. Idlers for belt conveyers RITCHIE, J. M., FRIELICK, S.F., and SMIT, J. March 11, 1952, No. 6353/52. Class 78 (1) An idler roller assembly comprises rollers 6 rotatably mounted on arms 5 extending from a post 2, the rollers being shaped to form a concave belt-supporting surface. Each roller is clamped to. a threaded spindle 13 by nuts engaging shoulders .14, 15 on the rollers, the spindle being rotatably supported by roller bearings 16 inside the arm 5 and formed with a socket 19 in its end face 20 engaging a ball 17 on the end face 18 of the arm. The bearings 16 are held apart by a sleeve 21, the outer surface of this sleeve and the inner surface 22 of the arm defining between them an annular space 23 enclosed at its ends by the end face 18 and a gland structure 24 and containing lubricant such as oil. Topping-up of the oil may be effected through a bore 25 in the spindle 13 which communicates, with the space 23 and terminates at its outer end in a cap 26. If the space is packed with grease, the cap is replaced by a grease nipple. A detachable cover plate 27 keeps dirt out of the space 11. The rollers may be formed on their outer surface with circumferential grooves for receiving rubber rings constituting the tread for the belt. The arms may be supported at their outer ends on posts.
