Abstract

575,526. Endless-belt conveyers. JOHNSON & SONS, Ltd., C. H., and NEESOM, C. H. March 21, 1944, No. 5239. [Class 78 (i)] In idler rollers for endless-belt conveyers of the kind comprising a shaft carrying bearings on which the roller is mounted, each bearing being located in a housing which includes a lubricant holding space, the housing is sealed at both sides or closed at one side and sealed at the other. Each roller comprises a steel tube 10 with cast-iron inserts 11, 12 pressed into and secured to its ends. Each insert is bored centrally to provide a series of steps, corresponding steps being formed in a stationary shaft 19. The step 11c in the insert 11 forms a space 18 which contains grease supplied through a nipple 15. The intermediate step 11b receives a roller bearing 16, and the step 11a is occupied by a seal 17. The arrangement in the insert 12 is somewhat similar, but a small seal unit 20 is placed at the outer side of the grease chamber 23.
