Abstract
608,702. Endless-belt conveyers. MITCHELL, F. G. Feb. 27, 1946, No. 6167. [Class 78 (i)] In conveyers to which a trough section is imparted by sets of idler rollers, each set is composed of an even number of rollers greater than two, each roller being carried by a rigid spindle and each spindle being inclined to the horizontal to ensure that the belt follows its natural curve. The belt 20 rests on the rollers 16, 17, 18, 19 which are supported on pedestals 22, 23, 24 fixed to a base-plate 14 and girders 12. The rollers 16 and 17 are mounted to rotate on spindles 34 and 36 fitted with ball bearings 31 and 32. The outer end of the spindle 34 is closed by a screw cap 38 and the inner end extends to a hole in the bearing block 28 and is secured by a screw 42. An annular space 50 is filled with lubricant which is prevented from escaping by flanged discs. In modifications, two pedestals 22, 24 only are used and each spindle is constituted by a stub shaft with no ball bearings, in which case the spindles are interconnected and lubricant is poured in. When six or more rollers are provided, the rollers are graduated in length.
