Abstract

709,524. Bark removing. SODERHAMNS VERKSTADER AKTIEBOLAG. Aug. 1, 1951, No. 18198/51. Class 145 (2) A machine for removing bark from treetrunks has a rotatable holder through which the trunk is fed axially and radially adjustable bark removing tools supported by the holder; the tools being resiliently controlled and each including a feeler portion facing in a direction opposite to the direction of feed, and a blunt edge serving as a bark removing element by frictional shearing action. The tools are fed on to the trunk by pistons operated by compressed air or by spring or other means. Additional bark removing tools may be provided consisting of rotatable discs or rollers having blunt projections on their periphery. A treetrunk 18 is fed forward by two pairs 20, 22, of feeding rollers, and is guided by two pairs 21, 23 of guiding rollers. The drum 10 is supported by four rolls 14 journalled in a frame 12 and engaging the annular rib 13 of the drum to provide axial displacement of the latter. The drum 10 carries four radially projecting cylinders 16 in which pistons 24 fit displaceably. The piston rods 26, which are secured against axial rotation, carry the bark-removing tools. Compressed air can be admitted through conduits 30, 32 to regulate the pressure of the tools on the tree-trunk. Many different forms of tools are described and illustrated.
