Abstract

709,416. Aircraft undercarriages. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd. Oct. 12, 1951 [July 14, 1950], No. 17692/50. Class 4 In a levered suspension landing gear for aircraft the lever and the shock absorber are arranged radially within the rim of the landing wheel, the lever being united with a central hub within which the wheel spindle is rotatably mounted, and the shock absorbe is offset in the plane of the whee to one side of the hub and is offse laterally with respect to that par of the pillar which crosses the tyre and rim of the landing wheel, so that said shock absorber is wholly disposed between the lateral extremities of the pillar and the wheel. The leg 6 terminates in a lug 7 formed with a boss 8 which carries a bearing pin 11 fast with a pair of forks 13, 14 united by a hub 12. The fork 13 is arcuate in shape and is recessed into the lug 7 and the fork 14 is substantially disc shaped. The single disc wheel 15 has an axle 16 mounted in the hub 8 by bearings 17, 18. The lug 7 and a projection 42 on the boss 8 support a pivot pin 41 for an eye 39 on the end of the plunger 38 of a shock absorber, of which the cylinder 33 is pivotally mounted between the forks 13, 14 by a trunnion 34 so that deflection of the shock absorber is less than the corresponding movement of the wheel. The side of the wheel opposite the disc portion 15 is enclosed by a cowling 43 secured by screws to the hub 12 and to radial arms 45, 46 and 47 which extend from the arcuate fork 13. The arm 47 has an extension 48 which supports an inspection cover 49. The fork 14 may be the torque plate of a disc brake.
